Contributor Guidelines
How can I become a contributing writer for CorporateIdealist.com?
Start by reading through these guidelines, and then following the last step.
What’s the style?
Corporate Idealist (or CorporateIdealist.com – either is acceptable) is a blog about finding meaning in work, being creative in business, and measuring success beyond money.
We favor a conversational writing style with a balance of posts that relate to news items and posts that develop concepts on their own.
What do we write about?

Does it pay?
Yes. But not much, at first.
Ultimately, this is a business blog, so we want it to be profitable and prosperous. But we think the quality of content is a big part of what will keep readers coming back. So we want to encourage contributors to commit to as many posts as they can manage over a long period of time. We think content quality will improve by having more long-term committed contributors.
With that in mind, contributors will make $1 per approved post until they’ve contributed 5 posts, after which pay per post goes up and will continue to go up in small increments. The nice thing about this for contributors is that the longer you write for this blog, the easier it will be to know what to write and how to write it well.
What do we mean by “approved posts”? Simply put, if someone contributes a post that needs a lot of reworking, it won’t be compensated. It just doesn’t make sense to pay for bad work.
Here’s the post pay scale:
1st – 5th post: $1.00 per approved post
6th – 15th post: $1.50 per approved post
16th – 30th post: $2.00 per approved post
31st – 50th post: $2.50 per approved post
51st – 100th post: $3.00 per approved post
101st post & up: we’ll discuss it when we get there. :)
What else is there to know?
We prefer a positive approach to a negative one (though at times a negative approach is appropriate and necessary); we prefer constructive criticism to outright condemnation; we like to balance earnest sincerity with light humor now and then.

Email Kate O’Neill, the managing editor to indicate your interest in contributing. Include 4 or 5 post ideas (they don’t have to be written; it just has to be clear how you would write them) to show your familiarity with the material, and send along a few links to writing samples, such as another blog you write for.
Thanks for your interest!
